A Heber couple was killed when their Jeep Cherokee rolled Tuesday evening on U.S. 40 near Park City.
Gregory Provost, 42, and Karrie Provost, 35, died when they were ejected from the vehicle, said Cameron Roden, a spokesman for the Utah Highway Patrol.
“They were westbound heading toward I-80 and the driver was going too fast for the slick conditions and lost control. The vehicle rolled and ended up in the eastbound lane,” Roden said.
The couple’s two children were restrained inside the vehicle and survived the crash, he said, adding that the rollover occurred in a snow storm near the U.S. 40 exit to Park City and Kamas at 5:51 p.m.
“The male died on scene and the female died en route to the hospital,” Roden said. “We’re not sure which was one was driving yet and they’re still investigating, too, whether the female was hit from another vehicle after she was ejected.”
A 10-year-old girl, Morgan, and three-year-old Lowen were taken with minor injuries to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, said Roden, who is not sure whether the man and woman riding in the front were wearing seat belts.
“One of the seat belts was latched,” Roden said.
Eastbound U.S. 40 at Quinn’s Junction was closed for several hours as the crash was investigated, Roden said.
“They diverted traffic off the ramp and let them right back on again,” he said.
