With the job market in a slump, officials expect more than 100 people to apply for the new Summit County manager post.
A selection committee was seated Wednesday to vet resumes from applicants. That panel includes Park City Manager Tom Bakaly, Utah Athletic Foundation director Colin Hilton, Evelyn Furse, an attorney, Eastern Summit County Planning Commissioner John Blazzard and DeAnn Geary, owner of Geary Construction in Coalville.
“The people that are before you on this committee have an outstanding level of commitment,” said Woodland resident Bob Wheaton, who helped choose the selection committee.
But Parkite Blair Feulner, who served with Wheaton on that board, suggested officials hire a professional job recruiter to help check references of those who apply.
“The committee is going to get a huge number of resumes,” Feulner said. “They may end up screening hundreds of applications.”
The form of government in the county changed in January from a three-member county commission to the five-person council/manager model.
The Summit County Council, charged with hiring a manager to oversee the executive branch of government, may need to pay the county manager a salary of more than $125,000 to attract qualified candidates.
“I would strongly recommend as a citizen, that the County Council find some resources somewhere to hire a professional recruiter,” Feulner said, adding that the headhunter could assist the selection panel. “I think this committee is going to need some resources.”
Summit County will conduct a nationwide job search to fill the position.
