Officials in the Summit County Courthouse have filed their annual conflict of interest declarations. They are advised to withdraw from discussions and not vote when they could financially gain from their decisions and each year they disclose property they own and business relationships they have in the county.

For example, Summit County Councilman Chris Robinson co-owns a substantial amount of real estate and mineral rights on the East Side of Summit County. Robinson is a Democrat who is seeking his second term on the council this year. His opponent in the race is Marion resident Gary Shumway, a member of the Constitution Party.

According to Robinson’s filing, he co-owns and operates Skull Valley Company, LTD., Castle Rock Land and Livestock Company and Uintah Land Company, L.C. Robinson also co-owns Ensign Ranches of Utah, which runs a large cattle operation on his land in Summit County.

Robinson said he co-owns about 60,000 acres of land in northeastern Summit County. Most of the property is situated along both sides of Interstate 80 in Echo Canyon.

Robinson also has an ownership interest in more than 400 acres of land in the Uinta Mountains east of Kamas. He said he is planning to partner with family members to develop a 12-lot subdivision near the Mirror Lake Highway.

“It’s not really something that I want to sell,” Robinson said. “It’s more a dream of having a family place.”

Robinson is a trustee and vice chairman of the board for The Nature Conservancy of Utah, a board member for the Park City Medical Center and member of the Recycle Utah Advisory Board. He also owns his house on Old Ranch Road.

Other potential conflicts of interest county officials declared on their filings this year included:

Summit County Councilman John Hanrahan is a member of the board of directors for the People’s Health Clinic and the United Way Leadership Council of Summit County. He owns a house on Maple Drive in the Snyderville Basin and a studio condominium at Silver King Hotel in Park City.

Hanrahan is a physician who co-owns Agape Vision, Inc., which is a medical consulting business.

Summit County Council Chairwoman Claudia McMullin is an attorney who owns a law office on the West Side of Summit County. She owns a house on Little Lake Drive and a share of a unit at Sky Lodge in Park City. McMullin is a member of the Sundance Institute Utah Advisory Board.

Summit County Councilwoman Sally Elliott listed her home on Sidewinder Drive in Park City as her only potential conflict of interest.

Summit County Councilman David Ure listed a home and agricultural property he owns on Lambert Lane in Kamas as potential conflicts of interest. Ure is a board member for the State of Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration and Weber Basin Water Conservancy District. He is also an officer for two irrigation companies.

Ure, a Republican, is campaigning this year for a second term against Francis Democrat KayCee Simpson.

The disclosure for Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds listed no potential conflicts of interest. Edmunds does not own property in Summit County.

“I sold my home in Kamas and we are renting in Oakley,” Edmunds said. “I anticipate buying a new home in Summit County very, very soon.”

According to the declaration for Summit County Attorney David Brickey, Brickey owns a home on 2000 West on the West Side of Summit County.

Summit County Auditor Blake Frazier, who is also the mayor of Oakley, owns his house on 850 West in Oakley. Frazier also owns an interest in F & V storage in the South Summit area.

Summit County Clerk Kent Jones is a partner in Jones Plus, Inc. Jones owns his home in Henefer and a building lot in the North Summit area.

Summit County Assessor Barbara Kresser owns her home on South Hoytsville Road.

Summit County Recorder Alan Spriggs listed many acres he owns in the county as potential conflicts of interest. Summit County Treasurer Glen Thompson owns his home on Woodenshoe Drive in Peoa and a nearly six-acre parcel in eastern Summit County.

Summit County Manager Bob Jasper listed no potential conflicts of interest on his disclosure form.
