City Hall wants to learn how information about people receive information about the municipal government, posting an online survey inquiring about communications between officials and regular Parkites.
The 13-question survey asks about the sources of information people use when they want to learn about City Hall, with choices including the municipal website, The Park Record, KPCW radio, Park City Television and city publications like an electronic newsletter.
The survey also asks people to rate City Hall’s communications efforts and whether they receive enough information from the municipal government. Meanwhile, City Hall wants to learn how often people want to receive updates and whether they are interested in electronic communications like text messages. Officials want to learn whether people have logged onto City Hall’s revamped website, www.parkcity.org. The survey asks people to choose their age group, which will allow City Hall to learn what methods people of varying ages use to receive information.
“We need your feedback about the information you would like to receive and the best ways of getting it to you. Your response will help us meet your communication needs in a timely, cost effective way,” the survey says.
Phyllis Robinson, who manages City Hall’s public-relations efforts and acts as the chief spokesperson, said the last time a similar poll was taken was in 2006.
“Right now, where are people getting information . . . What kinds of information are people looking for,” Robinson said.
Robinson said City Hall hopes upward of 500 people take the survey, and more than 100 people had completed the survey in the days after it was posted on the website. Officials estimate it takes between three and five minutes to complete.
The survey will be posted through July 15. Robinson said she expects the results will be presented to Mayor Dana Williams and the Park City Council in mid-September as part of a broader discussion about City Hall’s communications efforts with the public.
The survey is available on the municipal website, with a link to the questionnaire headlined “Enhancing the Way Park City Communicates – Survey.”
City Hall has traditionally used a broad range of methods to distribute information, including mailers, the website, flier inserts in water bills and in-person appearances by staffers and elected officials.
