A wanted criminal is back behind bars after leading a deputy on a chase last week, the authorities said.
A judge has issued a warrant in the case for the 21-year-old Kearns man who is accused of speeding through Wasatch and Summit counties while being pursued by an officer.
On Sept. 14, Cody M. Brooks was charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property and failure to stop at the command of a police officer. Brooks was also charged in 3rd District Court with two misdemeanors for reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Brooks on Sept. 12 after a chase along State Road 248 reached speeds of nearly 100 mph, said Detective Ron Bridge, a spokesman for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Brooks stopped near Quinn’s Junction after deputies used spikes to damage tires on the vehicle, Bridge said.
The suspect was a wanted fugitive and the vehicle Brooks was driving was stolen, according to Bridge.
Brooks is scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court in the Snyderville Basin on Sept. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
“He was on parole and has had a history of not wanting to cooperate with law enforcement,” Summit County Attorney David Brickey said about the defendant. “He is already back in prison.”
