Miners throttle Dinos in Price
The Park City High School football team was dealing with somewhat of a flu bug earlier last week.
It didn’t seem to bother the team Friday night.
The Miners obliterated the Carbon High School Dinos 59-0 in Price and improved their overall record to 4-3 on the season and, more importantly, upped their unblemished Region 10 record to 2-0.
Park City’s offense was hitting on all cylinders as it took a 40-0 lead into halftime. Quarterback Paul Flake earned 201 passing yards and three touchdowns on just six completions and running back Blake Thorne added 114 rushing yards. Chad Wing had 70 yards rushing and a touchdown on just two carries.
Junior wideout Jono Schettler is now up to No. 6 in the nation in receiving yards with 891 after adding touchdown catches of 68 and 50 yards to his resume Friday against Carbon.
The Miners have a bye this week to rest up for the stretch run of their 2010 season.
Park City, which has won three games in a row, will end the season with two games at home. Oct. 14 will feature the American Leadership Academy Eagles coming to Dozier Field for homecoming, while the last game of the year will be the annual showdown with rival Wasatch.
Braves thumped by 2A’s best
After holding the top 2A team in the state of Utah to just one touchdown in the first quarter, things were looking up for the North Summit High School Braves.
Unfortunately, the San Juan offense exploded with 28 second-quarter points and that was it for the Braves as they fell to 3-4 on the season with a 35-0 loss to the Broncos in Blanding Friday.
But North Summit doesn’t have to wait long to attempt to right the ship.
The Braves will host their rival South Summit Wildcats Friday in Coalville and are looking to upset the 6-1 Wildcats. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
