Deputies say a 22-year-old Snyderville Basin woman was drunk when a car she was driving crashed into a house on Highland Drive.
Summit County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Bergin said the Volkswagen Jetta was headed east on Highland Drive when the driver lost control.
“She didn’t make that corner, she was going way too fast, hit a dirt berm and launched her car into the home there on Highland,” Bergin explained in a telephone interview. “There is significant damage to the home.”
Deputies said excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.
“There was a witness that said she was going over 80 mph,” Bergin said. “For her to launch that car about 120 feet through the air into the home without touching, she was going extremely fast when she hit that dirt berm.”
The crash occurred early Saturday morning. Bergin said the car crossed the oncoming lane and sped over the berm on the east side of Highland Drive.
“The berm is in front of the house,” Bergin said.
The Volkswagen became airborne before crashing into the house, he said.
“There were people in the home. There was no one injured, fortunately for them. It could have been very bad,” Bergin said. “It landed in the garage portion and then there is the front entryway toward the home. It was in that interior part The car was about three-quarters of the way into the home.”
The woman who was driving the car was transported to the Park City Medical Center with minor scratches and a cut on her head, he said.
“She was checked out at the hospital and released,” Bergin said. “She was very intoxicated, that’s for sure.”
The woman was booked into the Summit County jail. Bergin said she could face a charge for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The woman is also accused of assaulting a hospital employee, Bergin said.
