Family members and friends of a Snyderville Basin man who was reported missing in December are continuing their search.
“They have conducted a couple of searches on their own in conjunction with us. They just haven’t come up with much,” Summit County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brad Wilde said. “If it ever quits snowing and starts warming up maybe something will surface that we haven’t been able to find. There might be some stuff that we just haven’t been able to see.”
Magdaleno Godinez Godinez, who is in his 20s, was last seen at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 19, according to Wilde. He was reported missing Dec. 21.
“We know who was last with him at the house but from that we have not had one piece of information. He was seen going to his room and the next day he wasn’t in the house,” Wilde explained. “Nobody really gave it much thought because there are several people who rent rooms at the house.”
The missing man was renting a room in a Spring Creek home near East Canyon Creek. He lived at the home for about three years.
A Sheriff’s Office search team walked a stretch of the stream last week. Searchers focused on an area within a few hundred yards of where the missing man was last seen.
“They came up with nothing,” Wilde said. “Nothing has developed. Nobody has called. Nobody’s said that they have seen him.”
The average depth of the creek in that area is about three feet, he said.
“We actually put search-and-rescue members in the water and walked the creek probing under the banks with poles,” Wilde said.
The missing man’s car was found at his Snyderville Basin home.
“But we never found the keys. Whether they’re in his pocket or dropped along the road or something, we don’t know,” Wilde said.
Wilde said the man worked the same job in the Park City area for about three years.
“We’ve talked to his employer. We’ve talked to the last people who were with him and everything seemed very normal,” Wilde said. “He never had a problem, never had any conflicts.”
A detective has been assigned to the case and deputies are pursuing leads.
“We have spent a lot of time trying to eliminate stuff and search, but we just haven’t found anything,” Wilde said.
