The Park City Police Department last week received a string of complaints about missing skis, with some of the people telling the police the equipment had been stolen.

Some of the cases reported to the police included:

  • On Sunday, March 13 at 7:09 p.m., skis were reported stolen from a rental unit on Woodside Avenue. The skis had been rented, the police were told. Earlier that day, at 12:24 p.m., skis were reported stolen from the 500 block of Woodside Avenue.
  • On Friday, March 11 at 5:01 p.m., skis were reported stolen from someone on Three Kings Drive.
  • On Tuesday, March 8, skis were reported stolen at 5:12 p.m. from the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.
  • On Monday, March 7 at 2:44 p.m. skis were reported stolen on the 2200 block of Deer Valley Drive.

    Ski and snowboard thefts are regularly reported to the Police Department, and Park City has been crowded with spring-break skiers and snowboarders. The police and resorts recommend people store their equipment with valets while taking a break on the slopes. They also suggest people use lockers.

    The police say sometimes the cases are mistaken identity. In other instances, though, thieves either want the equipment for themselves or they take the equipment and then put them up for sale on the black market.
