City Hall is seeking two people to serve on the influential Park City Planning Commission, the panel that has the authority to make wide-ranging decisions about development inside the city.
The two positions had been held by Dick Peek and Richard Luskin. Peek was appointed to the City Council to succeed the late Candy Erickson while Luskin stepped down from the Planning Commission as he faces a drunken driving charge.
The position that was held by Luskin expires in mid-2012. The position that Peek held expires in mid-2013.
Each of them attended their last Planning Commission meeting as members of the panel on Wednesday night. They received a round of applause for their service.
The seven-person Planning Commission is seen as being No. 2 in influence of the City Hall bodies, trailing only the City Council. It holds the power to approve or reject numerous types of developments, from small projects to large ones like the Sweeney family’s Treasure proposal.
The panel in recent months has spent time considering the rewriting of City Hall’s General Plan, a document that guides growth in Park City, and the Park City Heights proposal along the S.R. 248 entryway. Items like the General Plan and Treasure will likely remain in front of the Planning Commission in some fashion for the foreseeable future.
The Planning Commission is expected to hold lengthy discussions in the coming months about projects like the idea to redevelop the Bonanza Park district, centered along Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard.
Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. They start early in the evening and sometimes stretch into the night.
The deadline to submit an application is at 5 p.m. May 13. Planning Commissioners are required to live inside Park City. Members of the Planning Commission are paid $100 per meeting and receive recreation privileges.
The City Council makes the appointments. The City Council is expected to conduct interviews with the people who apply in May or June, with the appointments probably being made quickly afterward.

The application asks people to answer questions about what they see as the most important issues the Planning Commission faces and how people perceive the mission of the panel.
