Park City’s newest hotel is hiring now and will start taking reservations in mid-October.
The Washington School House is on schedule to open in mid-December with 12 rooms and a heated lap pool, said general manager Jessica Davis.
The former bed-and-breakfast was purchased and gutted last spring. The new business will be a boutique hotel featuring an interior by La Jolla-based Paul Allen Design.
The interior will focus on reclaimed wood and Gustavian antiques. Davis said designers Shannon and Paul Wehsener are 95-percent done choosing art and furnishings for the hotel.
“We excruciatingly searched antique stores to give each guest a unique experience,” she said.
The search took them all over the country, Davis said.
The hotel hopes to employ about 14 people for this winter, including herself. A variety of positions are open, including assistant manager and a chef charged with creating breakfasts for guests.
The economy is still rough and average room rates for the area are still low, but Davis said she isn’t worried.
“The property is so beautiful and has great historical precedence. It has authenticity, which is something that escapes some other properties in town. It’s a unique property,” she said.
