In the past week, 186 Summit County residents have casts their ballots as part of early voting, according to Summit County Clerk Kent Jones. Early voting began Oct. 25 and lasts through Nov. 4. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Jones said the small number of early voters is average for a non-presidential election year. But early voting, especially for big elections, is growing in popularity.
“During our last presidential election, half of voters voted early, 6,000 people in two weeks,” Jones said.
The clerk’s office encourages residents to vote early to relieve pressure on Election Day.
“Some people think it is more convenient to vote early, no lines. But others like the flexibility of having more polling places available on Election Day,” Jones said.
This year, six towns have city council seats on the ballot, the Summit County Courthouse is asking residents for a $2 million fund transfer, and the North Summit School District is asking its voters to approve a local-option tax to support the schools.
Early voting is available at the following places through Friday, Nov. 4, from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.:
