It’s time to grab your skis and dust off your snowboard because Park City Mountain Resort is scheduled to open Saturday, Nov. 19.
According to Park City Mountain Resort communications manager Andy Miller, three lifts are scheduled to be up and running Saturday morning: PayDay, 3 Kings and First Time.
Miller also said he anticipates six to eight runs opening, including Home Run, Treasure Hollow, PayDay, Quicksilver, Lower 3 Kings, Turtle Trail and Silver Hollow.
The resort is scheduled to debut its two brand-new conveyor lifts in the newly-dedicated beginner learning zone, located near the resort’s base area.
“It’s basically like a moving walkway at the airport,” Miller said. “You don’t have to get off a chair; it’s designed for beginners. It’s as simple as standing on a little carpet.”
Opening day is also scheduled to feature the new Flying Eagle Zip Line, which enters its first full season of operation at the resort. Miller said the new Zip Line is just “another winter adventure and a cool new way for people to experience the mountain without skis or snowboards.”
The Zip Line is located next to the Alpine Coaster, which is also scheduled to open Saturday.
Miller added the rental shop will be up and running, along with the ski and snowboard schools. Legacy Café, Legends Bar & Grill and Kristi’s Coffee Shop are also expected to open their doors Saturday morning.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Park City Mountain Resort had not ironed out lift ticket prices, which are often offered at a reduced rate until more terrain is available, and Miller said he expects the decision to be made sometime later this week.
This Friday, Nov. 18, is the deadline for specially-priced Park City Mountain Resort Benefit Days lift tickets for a special price of $25.
According to Miller, tickets can only be purchased at the Park City Mountain Resort’s services office at the base area. Benefit Days lift tickets are good from Opening Day through Dec. 16, but must be purchased in person. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the newly created Park City Mountain Resort Legacy Fund, which will manage the resort’s future charitable work.
Thanks to a gracious snowstorm last weekend, Miller said the folks at PCMR are eagerly awaiting the next scheduled storm, which should arrive Friday evening and dump even more snow well into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service of Salt Lake City, the next significant storm system is expected to be a strong cold front and heavy snow is possible for several hours behind it.
“Last weekend’s snow was great,” Miller said. “But this next storm will bring several inches.”
