The Park City Police Department last week received another series of complaints about ski or snowboard thefts, continuing a string of cases that has stretched since early February.

At least six cases were reported last week, and they were not limited to the two mountain resorts inside the Park City limits, police logs showed.

The cases last week included:

  • on Saturday, March 24 at 2:07 p.m. someone on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue reported that a snowboard had been stolen. The officer who received the report was on a foot patrol when approached.
  • on Friday, March 23 at 9:16 a.m., a theft of skis was reported on the 2200 block of Deer Valley Drive.
  • on Thursday, March 22 at 3:44 p.m., skis were reported stolen on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.
  • on Wednesday, March 21 at 4:26 p.m., someone reported skis had been stolen on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.
  • on Monday, March 19 at 3:43 p.m., skis were reported stolen from the 7600 block of Royal Street.
  • on Monday, March 19 at 10:52 a.m., the police received a report from someone on lower Iron Horse Loop that three pairs of skis had been taken from a ski rack atop a car.

    Cases on Lowell Avenue typically involve skiers or snowboarders at Park City Mountain Resort while reports on streets like Deer Valley Drive and Royal Street generally are associated with Deer Valley Resort.

    The police and the resorts recommend that people use ski lockers or valets as a way to protect their equipment. The police, meanwhile, offer a ski-registration program that is meant to discourage thieves.

    There have been at least 16 cases reported to the Police Department since early February. The police continue to investigate the thefts, including monitoring pawn shop and online listings for the stolen skis and snowboards.
