Kids may choose from a variety of recreation camps this summer to stay active or in some cases, cool. Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District Coordinator Angie Greenburg said one of the district’s most popular camps is the H20 Adventure Camp. Campers will spend a week participating in water activities.
“With our camps, we do a lot of sports, obviously to stay active and just to do things that they normally might not get to do if they were at home,” she said, adding, for example, that the mountain biking camp allows campers to enjoy the trails offered throughout Park City. Basin Recreation offers camps for beginner and intermediate riders from ages 6 to 14. Campers will ride trails such as Lost Prospector and in Round Valley and Willow Creek areas.
Basin Recreation offers half- and full-day camps from June to August, which allows campers to make new friends or stay in touch with friends from school through summer vacation, Greenburg said.
“We have a lot of kids who are vacationing here in the summer so the vacationers can put their kids in camp. It’s really convenient for the parents,” she said.
Most of the camp counselors return annually, according to Greenburg, who said there are about 25 staff members this year. Each counselor is CPR and first aid certified and have experience in the sport or activity they are supervising.
“Counselors are required to either have coached or played the sports. Most of my camp counselors are returning. It’s a really great job for them and it’s great for the kids,” she said, adding that she also enjoys participating in many of the camp activities, including going on bike rides with the campers.
