Please support Cindy Matsumoto’s reelection to Park City Council. I have known Cindy as a friend for over 20 years and as a business partner at Right at Home for the last 12. I have known her to be a hardworking, trustworthy individual. We became business partners because it was always clear to me that she has a unique business sense, strategic thinking, and a sense of humor. It’s no surprise that these qualities have served Park City well in her first term as City Councilperson.

During her first term, I have witnessed Cindy work very hard. The City Council has secured open space, funding for future open space, a water agreement that is crucial to our desert mountain town, and has worked though complicated EPA issues regarding our mining history.

August is busy! Don’t forget to vote! The City Council primary election is August 13th. Early voting starts next Tuesday, July 30th. I’ll be casting my vote for Cindy.

Give Alex another term

Dear Editor

I am writing to endorse Alex Butwinski for a second term on the City Council. Alex has two qualities I would like the voters to consider

1) He works extremely hard at fulfilling his responsibilities as a City Councilman. He regularly volunteers for the responsibilities that require the most work and does a very good job.

2) The four years he has completed on the City Council will serve the citizens well. The knowledge and relationships he has developed during his first term will enhance his effectiveness in his second term.

Please vote for Alex.

Election endorsements are valuable

It’s unfortunate that a political campaign, even on a local level, has to become mean-spirited.

mean-spirited, I’m referring to Bruce Dennis’ Letter to the Editor, July 24th, mocking and accusing Alex Butwinski of using The Park Record for free advertising by having his wife endorse him for City Council. I can’t imagine anyone more qualified to extoll Alex’s virtues than his wife. She has first-hand knowledge of the endless meetings and hours he spends perusing agendas presented to the city. There are hours of negotiations and the exhausting time and effort that is expected of him with the responsibility that comes with being on the city council. I think it might even be odd if his wife was silent during the campaign.

I would like to assure you that us “local folks” don’t have to be asked to write letters endorsing Alex for city council. We do it because we want to raise visibility for Alex. We do it because we want to remind “local folks” to get out and vote. But most of all, we do it because we know he’s passionate about what’s best for all of us “local folks” in Park City and we know he does it well.

Mali election has local ties

Americans are a generous people. There is a strong ethic of helping one’s neighbor and of making the world a better place. Nowhere has this been more evident than in the efforts made to support a young Malian presidential candidate by the name of Yeah Samake.

Yeah spent several years in the U.S., first getting a good education, including a period of time as an intern on an international level where he was mentored in principles of limited and representative government. His embrace of true principles is natural and innate. He teaches them with simple grace and dignity as he travels from village to village. He is mighty in exemplifying the importance of family and of high moral values based upon impeccable honesty. He is firm in teaching his fellow citizens of their responsibility to be well-educated and informed. He is awakening Malians to the vision of freedom and liberty that only comes when government respects individual choice. He believes in his people with his whole heart and soul.

And he has the faith to persevere, even now as he faces the upcoming elections this Sunday not knowing where the needed funds will come to staff precinct captains to monitor voter fraud. He gives his all and exercises faith. He does not doubt. Yeah for Yeah!
