This year’s Summit County Fair saw a huge turnout as new events and entertainment drew not just those from the East Side of the county but many from Park City as well.
Fair Co-Administrator Travis English said it was good to see a diverse crowd at the fair and that the food vendors this year reported it was a big success.
“Some said they sold 10 times as much as years past,” English said.
The new layout of the food booths this year English said created a better flow for fairgoers. The booths were arrayed in the outfield of the baseball field, facing the stage so people could eat and enjoy the entertainment at the same time.
Also garnering more attention this year were the 5K race and the 4H exhibits, but English said the Barrel Bash was perhaps one of the most popular events. The barrel racing event had 450 contestants and went late into the night.
The rodeo in the Large Arena, however, was the highlight of this year’s fair. Put on by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, this year’s rodeo featured veteran circuit riders as well as local amateur riders. English said sales for the rodeo were up this year compared to last, and both nights brought out “several hundred more people” than previous years.
“It was a lot of fun it was one of the best rodeos they’ve had in a while,” English said. “Looking at other rodeos, none had as high of scores as the one here.”
English was also pleased with how the Summit County Sheriff’s Office managed the roads with the Tour of Utah and the parade taking place concurrently.
“The parade went pretty well for the most part with the Tour coming through,” English said. “The Summit County Sheriff’s Office did a great job of steering everyone in the right direction.”
English said he particularly wanted to thank all those who helped out with the fair this year.
“I want to send a thank-you to all of the Summit County residents that came out and helped out and volunteered,” English said.
