Between Tuesday, Oct. 1, and Monday, Oct. 7, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls including the following:
A gas company called about an aggressive male at an address where the company was working in the Snyderville Basin. When deputies spoke with the man, he was aggressive toward them and was forceful about keeping “trespassing” utility companies away from his yard. He said there would be a physical confrontation the next time they came back to work on his gas lines. The gas company was informed to call for a “keep the peace” when they need to go back to the area.
A woman in the Basin reported that a man came to her house late at night and passed out in another room. She said the man was drunk and angry upon awaking and would not leave. She also claimed he assaulted her and pulled out shrubs near her house. The man fled the scene before authorities arrived.
A disgruntled ex-employee of a Basin hotel was reported to have returned to the hotel. The individual has had a violent history and had previously trespassed on the property. There was cause to believe the individual was armed. A person located turned out not to be the individual in question.
An individual reported that unknown suspects had removed 30 feet of copper grounding cable from around buildings and a tower in the Basin, causing more damage than the value of the wire. The suspects may have been unprepared to cut the wire as the report said a great amount of it was left behind.
Management of a Kimball Junction business received a third-hand report of juveniles jumping on parked cars in a nearby parking garage. Deputies located three males and one female loitering in the parking garage, seated on the floor. Two of the individuals had previously been trespassed from the business and all four were informed that they were not welcome to return to the business or parking garage. No evidence of damage to vehicles was found.
A vehicle was stopped on Park Avenue for an improper lane change and during contact with the driver a deputy found a homemade tin foil pipe in plain view inside the vehicle. The driver attempted to grab and hide the pipe but was told to put it back and exit the car. He claimed the pipe was for marijuana use and was arrested.
A suspicious male was reported to have knocked on someone’s door in the Basin. When deputies arrived, they discovered that a dispute had happened between the man and a female the prior day. The man did not break any laws during the incident but was arrested for seven outstanding warrants. He was advised that he was being trespassed from the address.
Following a traffic stop on Interstate 80, a man was arrested for driving on an alcohol-revoked license and failing to install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.
An employee of a Basin business called to report a customer had made threatening remarks. The manager of the hotel where the man was staying reported that he or she wanted the man trespassed. There were drugs and drug paraphernalia in the room where the man was staying and he was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.
A vehicle was stopped for a lane violation in South Summit and the driver was found to have an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He was put through a series of field sobriety tests and passed. However, he was an alcohol-restricted driver on parole. The man was arrested, his vehicle was impounded and an open container of beer was found during a search of his car.
A motel manager reported that a man was mistakenly allowed to check in without providing a credit deposit. He made assurances he would pay, but the Sheriff’s Office was called when he failed to return in 30 minutes. He left his backpack at the motel.
Deputies responded to a report of a juvenile domestic violence incident in South Summit. No legal action was taken and the boys were released to their guardians.
Deputies followed a vehicle in South Summit that crossed over the center line multiple times. The man was pulled over and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.
Following a traffic stop for expired registration in the Basin, the driver, who had alcohol on his breath, passed field sobriety tests but had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle also yielded marijuana and a glass pipe. He was issued a citation and released.
