On February 8 and 9, the Miners from Park City swam at Brigham Young University for the 2019 Class 4A Utah High School State Championships. Eighteen swimmers earned spots to swim individual events at the meet, including Elise Beller, Jessi Beyer, Jackson Bryson, Fischer Caplin, Daniela Cartwright, Helena Djunic, Dylan Fitzgerald, Emily Lebold, Belle Malpede, Kat Moss, Lauren Pederson, Jillian Perry, Zach Robinson, Sydney Senn, Nia Sharrock, Emma Strong, Caroline Tooley, Jack Troxel. Nick Obradovich and Tyler Peabody were alternates selected to the team as well.
Friday was the preliminary session for all of the individual events. Saturday was the Finals, which entailed all the relays and the top 16 swimmers from the individual preliminary events. The top eight individual swimmers swam in the championship heat, and swimmers in places nine through 16 swam in the Consolation heat.
Congratulations to Elise Beller on being named the Female Swimmer of the Meet. This is the fourth year in a row that a lady Miner has been the Swimmer of the Meet.
In the past 13 seasons, the Miner women have finished among the top two teams 11 times and earned the swimmer of the meet five times. The Miner men have finished among the top three teams eight times and also had the swimmer of the meet five times.
The Lady Miners took second and the Miner Men took 10th. As a combined team, the Miners finished with a score of 403 and took second.
For the 2019-20 Season, PCHS will move into the 5A Ranks.
They will join Region 8, which is comprised of Maple Mountain, Payson, Provo, Salem Hills, Spanish Fork, Springville and Wasatch. They are excited and welcome the new swimming challenge.
