North American skiers dominated what was a rain-soaked FIS Freestyle Ski Summer Grand Prix event over at Utah Olympic Park Saturday afternoon. Parkite and Olympic gold medalist Chris Lillis topped the men’s division, and Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Marion Thénault did the same in the women’s.
But storms only allowed for one of the event’s final rounds to complete action. For attendees, the competition was thrilling enough to make up for the shortcomings in the weather department.
Lillis continued his impressive run this series, which has him sitting in first place through two events, and Thénault wowed the local crowds, landing her Lay Double Full-Full jump attempt. The two went on to laud the series for providing what they called fantastic training and competition opportunities for high-level skiers.
Following her victory, Thénault said, “It’s really good training and I’m really glad I could be on the first step up the podium again.”
The series next moves across the globe on Sept. 9 with a third and final event at Brisbane’s Geoff Henke Olympic Winter Training Center. Unfortunately for those looking to cheer on Team USA from afar, Lillis and the rest of the squad won’t be making the trip overseas.
