The Park City Miners thrashed Hillcrest last week 44-0, improving to 4-0 on the season for the first time since 2019. With star tailback and D1 commit Will McCurdy missing the contest, the Miners were able to turn in a complete team effort to get the win.
Six different players scored for the Miners, with backup running back Carson Navarro leading the charge with two touchdowns. While the game was still relatively hanging in the balance heading into the fourth quarter, the Miners ripped off a 27-point run, by far their highest single-quarter output of the season.
Park City will now turn their focus to the winless Murray Spartans, who they’ll host Friday night, Sept. 8. Despite the Spartans’ lackluster record this season, their passing game is not to be overlooked.
Spartans star, senior receiver Kayden Racine has been one of the few bright spots on the Spartans’ year. He’s averaging a staggering 83 yards per game heading into this week’s contest.
Experienced in his eighth season at the helm for the Miners, Head Coach Josh Montzingo is sure to have his team ready for the Spartans’ passing attack and not overlooking their squad. He’ll likely draw up a game plan that heavily features his defensive star duo Ben Beatty and Alex Moore.
With complete stats having unfortunately not been entered from last Friday’s game, defensive end Beatty had racked up four sacks through just three games. Moore had been surprisingly even more effective on the defensive side of the ball, having grabbed three interceptions, which was good for a third-place tie in the statewide rankings in the category.
The game versus the Spartans will kickoff at the usual 7 p.m. start time. Be sure to arrive to Dozier Field on time, as the Miners have been known to start things off hot, averaging 24 first half points on the season.
