The Miners mountain biking team will compete for the state championships Friday and Saturday near Cedar City at the Three Peaks Recreation Area.
Park City has high hopes for success, given they qualified 88 riders at regionals earlier this month, a program record.
Head Coach Pete Stoughton said he believes this has given the Miners their best podium chance since 2015.
“We are aiming for a podium spot as a team,” Stoughton said. “The riders have been working diligently to improve their team riding skills and outcomes.”
A few of the things Park City has been newly focusing on is training thoroughly yet safely and placing a focus on having fun.
“This year we’ve spent a lot of our time and energy focusing on making sure that riding is fun as well as fast,” he said.
The Miners are seeking their first podium since the 2014 championships, when they clinched a third-straight state title. Teams like Corner Canyon, Lone Peak and others have since taken over the reins, but the Park City coaching staff thinks they can upset the new status quo if their whole team performs on the two race days.
