The Miners girls soccer team fell 2-0 to the Green Canyon Wolves on Friday afternoon, at America First Field, down in the Valley. The loss, which was only Park City’s third on the season and first since early-August, came at the worst time, being the state championship game. The Miners hung tight with the Wolves for the most of the game, until a questionable penalty kick call in the second half led to Green Canyon’s first goal. From there, Park City fought valiantly, creating some solid chances on offense. However, the Wolves’ offensive pressure eventually proved too much, as they tacked on another, clinching goal in the game’s final minutes. While the loss was heartbreaking for the Miners, they have a chance to be back again next fall to play on such big stages. Park City will be returning 23 of 29 varsity players from this state championship game team, and they’ll undoubtedly add a few more under the development of Head Coach Anthony DiCicco.
