Last week, we had a midweek snowstorm followed by a mild, mostly sunny weekend. If you remember, I wrote about how much I was looking forward to tranquil weather to get out on the slopes with my kiddo. Of course, that was before I contracted strep throat. It was also before my immune system, rather than attack the virus like it’s supposed to, decided instead to go after my otherwise healthy kidneys. As you may expect, I was somewhat disappointed to end up on a hospital bed rather than a ski slope.
Not to worry, folks. Thankfully, we live in a world with antibiotics, and once I had a diagnosis, I was quickly on the mend. I am happy to report my immune system is no longer picking fights with innocent organs.
Lucky for me, we have the same general setup for this week – a midweek storm will bring powder to our mountains. This will be followed by clearing with warmth and sun for late week into the weekend.
Snow showers will fall on Tuesday and Wednesday with modest accumulations. Upper elevations could pick up 6-12 inches over a two-day period with lesser amounts in the valleys.
We certainly could see enough for a halfway decent powder day on Wednesday before we clear out on Thursday.
The weekend will be the quintessential spring ski weekend with warmth, sun, and a deep snowpack. I’m hoping to dig out the mini grill and do some parking lot tailgating after morning turns with the family. I’m also going to prep the mountain bike for the first time this season and take advantage of some drying lower-elevation trails and later daylight. We are getting to the time of year when one can do both winter and summer recreation on the same day.
If I look deep into my crystal ball, I see signs that after a week or so of benign weather, storms should return on or just after March 21. Hopefully, we can get one last good storm cycle before the end of the month. Stay tuned for next week’s column and I’ll have all the details on what we can expect over the closing stages of March.
