The Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History announced Saturday morning that member Shay Blackley would attempt to skim the pond at the annual Park City Mountain Resort event later in the day, beginning at noon.
They said Blackley would be dressed as a miner to raise awareness of the effort to save the Silver King Mine Building, located near the bottom of the Bonanza chairlift and that Blackley also would drass as the Silver King Mine before and after the event.
Brock Dehart of the Park City Mountain Resort Sign Shop contributed the design and the materials for the costumes.
“I’m hopeful that the aerodynamic aspects of the Silver King costume won’t slow me down so much that I end up in the middle of the pond,” Blackley said.
The Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History said there are many mining structures that still require preservation. As a result, the group continues to seek substantial funding to preserve the headframes at the Silver King and Thaynes mines. For more information: https://parkcityhistory.org/mining/
