An 18-year-old Parkite was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol over the weekend.
Summit County deputies stopped the man on Sunday night for speeding on S.R. 224, according to a shift report from the Sheriff’s Office. The speed limit on the roadway is 45 mph, but vehicles often reach speeds upwards of 55 mph. Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Felicia Sotelo was unable to verify how fast the man was driving.
Deputies made contact with the 18-year-old, who displayed signs of impairment, and launched a drunk-driving investigation. He was ultimately arrested for suspected DUI and booked into the Summit County Jail.
The man faces additional charges because of his age as an alcohol-restricted driver, including consumption by a minor, open containers and not having a valid driver’s license. Utah’s “Not-A-Drop” statute has a zero-tolerance policy related to drinking and driving for anyone under the age of 21.
Sotelo urged community members to call a ride share service or loved one if they are under the influence of alcohol and need to get home.
“It’s just not worth it (to drink and drive),” she said.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, May 6, and Sunday, May 12, including reports of drunk driving, active warrants and retail theft.
Friday, May 10
Deputies responded to a vehicle stopped on the side of S.R. 224. After an investigation, they suspected the driver was drunk. Deputes arrested the driver for suspected DUI, and they face additional drug charges.
Thursday, May 9
Deputies conducted a traffic stop after determining the driver had active arrest warrants out of Summit County and North Salt Lake. Deputies deployed a K9 who indicated the odor of narcotics was present. Deputies searched the car and found a small amount of THC products. The driver was arrested for the warrants and for being in possession of a controlled substance.
A man was taken into custody on U.S. 40 near the Wasatch County border for a bench warrant and commitment order issued by the Third District Court. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.
Wednesday, May 8
Deputies stopped a vehicle in Kimball Junction for a traffic infraction and suspicious lane travel. Deputies initiated a DUI investigation. They arrested the driver and charged them with suspected DUI as well as driving on a suspended license.
Tuesday, May 7
Deputies dispatched to the Kimball Junction area around 11:20 p.m. for a retail theft. They located the suspect vehicle on Ute Boulevard while en route to the call. Then, the vehicle turned south on S.R. 224. Deputies initiated a short pursuit that stopped in Bear Hollow. They took the driver into custody. The individual was charged with evading, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, reckless driving and more at the time of arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to a suspicious vehicle at a Silver Creek gas station. Five people were ultimately arrested.
