The recent proposal to improve the Park City High School softball and baseball fields was met with a dismissive tone by the Park City School Board.
One argument made was the low participation of baseball and softball relative to other sports is reason enough to oppose funding for turf fields. Measuring participation rates of a sport with inadequate facilities is a flawed argument.
Player participation will expand if students know that the vast majority of practices would no longer be indoors and that were would be a chance to actually play home games as scheduled.
Another argument made by the school board was to simply scrap the baseball and softball programs if they are unable to fund the turf fields.
To that I would say these sports teams have existed for years and scrapping the programs is not the answer.
I hope the school board can revisit the matter and fund this important project.
