The Park City Board of Education put the final nail in the coffin for Treasure Mountain Junior High this week.
The school board began the process in September with a deadline of Jan. 1 to make the final decision. On Tuesday, board members unanimously voted in favor of closing the school for the 2025-26 school year.
Ninth graders who would have attended Treasure Mountain will instead join the ranks of students attending Park City High School. Eighth graders will move to Ecker Hill Middle School.
When the process started in September, the school board did not have solid plans regarding the site of the soon-to-be vacant building.
Now, however, the Board of Education is moving forward with plans to demolish the school in order to build two soccer and lacrosse fields, as well as new infrastructure to improve parking.
The new fields and parking lot are part of an athletic makeover that was partially approved by the school board earlier this month.
During its Tuesday meeting, the Park City Board of Education also voted to approve a resolution allowing the purchase of up to $38 million of revenue bonds to fund the project.
According to outgoing school board President Andrew Caplan, the revenue bonds will pose no cost to taxpayers.
