Whether you are a U.S. senator, representative or the governor of the state of Utah, you are supposed to act both as the elected representative and as the political leaders of this state. All of you supported the reelection of Donald Trump.
What was apparent even before his first term in office and now so glaringly apparent in his second term is how his ego, combined with moral turpitude, has taken over the tone and impetus of this government with the goal of destroying our constitutional democracy.
He and his elected enablers are destroying all the institutions of government that are designed to defend us, to promote our health and well-being, to truthfully educate our young and, more broadly, to promote international respect and peace. These are just a few that he has trashed with a promise of more to come.
I urge you to search your conscience and see if you can set aside your aspirations to seek, gain and maintain your grasp on political power. Instead I urge you to find your moral compass to guide you back to a path that will lead this country back to its founding principles that have made this country the envy of all the free world … until now.
The current abuse of power and the total disregard for the rule of law that is now rampant has threatened the very survival of our democracy as never before since the Civil War.
It is time for you to stand up for something far more noble than partisan politics and to use your office for the greater good, that of preserving and strengthening our constitutional democracy.
