Dear Park City Council and friends: These are not recommendations … only thoughts of someone inside the ropes in 2002. I was asked to be Deer Valley venue chairman in the winter of 2000.
There were 13 of us. Our focus was on hospitality and recruiting volunteers. The Organizing Committee had recruited a large group of senior managers from the Sydney Olympics in 2000. They managed each venue along with security.
I assume that our senior operations managers will come in from the Brisbane Summer Olympics in 2032.
Fraser Bullock is the most important source of information concerning all operations. Limited number of other people have any significant experience.
We started in Lilyhammer and were awarded to bid in the early summer of 1996 in Budapest. Mitt Romney was hired as CEO in February 1999.
Our job is almost entirely hospitality. We won’t run anything, but the beauty of our town and the friendship and hospitality are what we offer our guests.
We can make some improvements. You know more about this than me. Our little town is special as it is, in my opinion.
We only have 17 days during the Olympic event, but within this short time is where we have the chance to build a lifetime of memories for our international guests and friends.
