As we are about to vote in one of the most important elections in Park City memory, I think the voters need to take a deep dive on the qualifications of the eight candidates for City Council.
As a disclaimer, we have been big supporters of nonprofits in Park City for the past 13 years. This letter is not about nonprofits, but it’s about the candidates’ qualifications.
Park City Municipal’s total expenditures in 2024 were about $426 million. This included operating expenditures, capital, grants and other smaller items.
We have eight candidates running for Council. Five have a heavy background in working at or running nonprofits. Two are current Council members. One is a local long-time business owner.
Running or working at a non profit, whose revenue probably ranges from $1 million to $10 million, is much different than making decisions on a $400 million operation like the city.
So the question at the end of the day is who are qualified for City Council?
I do not support any of the eight candidates at this time. I do support looking closely at all of their qualifications to make a decision as we approach primary voting day.
Remember, we have very big decisions to make on traffic, the 2034 Olympics, the fate of the Bonanza project, and many others.
The new council will set the stage for the real future of Park City and its residents!
Lastly, vote. Your input is what will shape the future of Park City.
