Donna and I read the recent letter titled “Demeaning remarks” with deep disappointment — particularly as it was signed by Mayor Nann Worel and council member Tana Toly. We both voted for both of you in the last election, almost exclusively on the strength of John “JK” Kenworthy’s wholehearted endorsement.
We attended campaign events that JK hosted in your support. He was a tireless advocate, vocal in his belief that your leadership would benefit Park City. That doesn’t sound misogynistic to us. On the contrary, it sounds like someone who believes in effective leadership and who puts in the effort to help elevate those he supports.
We have not seen any evidence that JK’s criticism of City Hall is rooted in anything other than a sincere desire to see better governance. He is honest and unafraid to call things as he sees them. That’s not bullying. That’s civic engagement.
This letter, unfortunately, reads to us more like a deflection from the real issues: a bloated and increasingly ineffective City Hall that many in our community believe has only deteriorated under current leadership.
If this is how Mayor Worel and council member Toly respond to public critique, then we believe that says more about their insecurities than it does about JK’s character.
Let’s not forget, JK has devoted more than 12 years to public service in Park City, including serving as chair of the Planning Commission. That’s a difficult, often thankless role, and one he undertook with integrity and a deep commitment to our community — not for political gain, but because he cares about where this town is headed.
We would encourage Park City voters reading the “Demeaning” letter to consider it, ironically, as an endorsement for JK Kenworthy, Jack Rubin and Jeremy Rubell. It underscores exactly why we need more independent-minded, results-driven leadership in City Hall.
