From my home in Thaynes Canyon for the past 36 years, I have seen change in Park City, some good and some not so good. Lately, it feels like the residents of Park City are really losing ground. The city lost the Sundance Film Festival and the Kimball Arts Center to Kimball Junction. Businesses everywhere in the city have a shortage of employees.
The traffic is horrendous, with UDOT putting Park City on the bottom of the list for roads. Try getting an emergency ambulance or your car to the Park City Hospital during peak tourist periods, or at the morning or evening rush hours, and I wish you good luck.
The Dakota Pacific development is coming to bring more housing and traffic to S.R. 224, as are the huge construction projects at Deer Valley Resort starting shortly, which will clog the roads inside the city.
Bonanza Park is ripe for a major construction project in an already congested area. Clark Ranch is a large development proposal that will make traffic even worse toward Quinn’s Junction.
The Olympics are less than nine years away, and there has been no meaningful Olympic planning under the current administration. Park City needs a seat at the Utah Olympic planning table.
So, does that tell you that we need very experienced business people elected to the City Council and as mayor, who can start immediately on a long-term plan for this town? They will need to make very smart business decisions quickly.
Jack Rubin and Jeremy Rubell have worked their hearts out to run for the mayor and City Council and have outlines exactly what their priorities are and how to accomplish them. They have had meet-and-greet meetings all over town explaining their positions. They have excellent financial backgrounds. They do what they say they will do. I know because they have answered every question that I have asked them about city problems, and both have gotten back to me very quickly.
These two people will move Park City forward in the right direction for problem solving and get a workable long-term plan.
Residents should think very carefully when they vote about who can turn this city ship around in a lot of areas quickly and make it go in a very positive direction. Vote Rubin and Rubell, and we’ll be on the right course.
