It’s that great time of year again — November and Live PC Give PC. Historically, our community does an extraordinary job year in and year out, demonstrating spirit and generosity.
This year, the big day is Friday. As always, we highly encourage everyone who can to donate to their favorite local causes and organizations. With that in mind, we would like to highlight the Park City High School boys lacrosse team as a worthy recipient of your charitable donation this year.
Park City boys lacrosse is one of the most successful of our many great high school teams, with Utah state championships earned in 2014, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. And last year, they were just one goal short of reclaiming the state title.
Sustaining this level of excellence takes the investment of time and energy from players, coaches, and volunteers alike. And frankly, it also takes money.
Besides the actual athletic infrastructure itself (more on that in a moment), relatively little of the operational cost of running a high school team is borne by district funds. Team fees paid by parents do cover some of the basics, but to stay successful against our ever-improving competition, we are seeking help from the community to support the continued tradition of excellence of Park City High School boys lacrosse.
For example, your donation dollars will help offset the cost of the annual in-season trip to Denver to play two nationally ranked schools. Coaches feel strongly that the yearly challenge of facing these top out-of-state teams is a big part of preparing the boys for their in-state playoff run. All of the cost of this annual trip is paid for by fundraising, as are the uniforms the boys wear.
Besides the cost of going on the road, this season also presents a unique challenge at home. The Dozier Field complex will be undergoing a long-overdue renovation, very likely making it unavailable for hosting home games this spring. Alternate home sites will be required, adding complexity and cost to such important events as Senior Night. This, of course, is in addition to the usual cost of indoor training space in the Basin field house during the winter.
