The Park City Ice Miners 14U Travel A team won the state championship on Sunday evening at the Utah Mammoth practice facility in Sandy.
The Ice Miners defeated the Utah Junior Grizzlies in the title game 8-5.
Park City’s Andrew Sweat, Wyatt Hawkins and Jackson Putnam starred for the team this season, all opting to forgo higher level opportunities to return.
“I’m super proud of all the players,” said Ice Miners Head Coach Yuri Ushakov. “It’s definitely one of the strongest teams I’ve been around. … They’re going to continue to play at a very high level.”
Park City’s 14U championship comes a week after their 12U one. With strong local players and coaches, Ushakov believes the Ice Miners are helping shape the future of hockey in town.
“We’re building something special here,” Ushakov said.
