The Hideout Town Council is on the lookout for candidates to fill a new vacancy. Town Councilor Bob Nadelberg officially resigned from his seat on March 12.
Mayor Ralph Severini said the Town Council will accept applications until the next council meeting on April 9. That’s when applicants seeking the vacancy will be interviewed, and one candidate will be voted in that night.
Applicants are required to have lived in Hideout for at least one year. Otherwise, Severini said the town will be looking for candidates who have the “time and energy” to sit on the Town Council.
“There’s plenty of folks in town that have a wealth of qualifications, so I don’t think that’s going to be an issue at all,” Severini said. “I think some new blood might be useful as well.”
Nadelberg, an airline pilot who has been on the Town Council since 2020, said he resigned because he did not have the time anymore. He first joined the council to fill a vacancy. He was then elected to a two-year term the following year. Now, Nadelberg is in a four-year term, which he won in 2023.
“Being on the other side of the world for a good chunk of time, that was just interfering with my ability to do the job properly,” Nadelberg said.
He originally joined the council because he wanted to make a difference in town. Now, under Severini’s leadership, Nadelberg said he feels comfortable with the town’s trajectory.
“I’m pretty confident that the town is pointed in and heading in the right direction, and I’m sure whoever will fulfill my role will continue all that good work,” Nadelberg said.
Severini said filling Nadelberg’s seat may be a challenge.
“We are very lucky in Hideout to have a plethora of highly educated and accomplished individuals, so the choice may not be so easy,” Severini said.
