A crash notification from an Apple device led to an arrest in Summit Park on Saturday, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies initiated a welfare check after an Apple device notified Summit County Dispatch of a possible crash in the Summit Park area. When they arrived at the crash location, deputies saw that the driver had run off the road, traveled approximately 100 feet down a hill and rolled the vehicle several times.
The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and deputies booked him into the Summit County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, April 27, and Sunday, May 3, including suspected DUIs, home robberies and a stolen trailer.
Sunday, May 3
Deputies received a report of a white trailer stolen from Bear View Drive. A citizen later found the trailer, which appeared to have been dragged and abandoned, blocking a driveway on Mahre Drive. The lock on the trailer had been cut, but no items were reported missing. The owner estimated there was $1,000 in damages to the trailer. The Sheriff’s Office does not have information on a potential suspect or video recordings of the area available. The case has since been closed.
Deputies were dispatched to investigate a suspicious person at an apartment complex on Bitner Road. The individual was located and allegedly exhibited signs of “heavy intoxication.” Deputies arrested the individual and booked them into the Summit County Jail.
Saturday, May 2
Deputies observed a car unable to maintain its lane of travel on eastbound Interstate 80. The car crashed into a concrete barrier, and deputies initiated a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies booked the driver into the Summit County Jail on a suspected DUI and towed the car.
Deputies responded to the Jeremy Store after they received reports of a man yelling and urinating on gas pumps. They searched the area and found the man, who had left the store in his car but had turned around to go back to the property. Deputies stopped the car and determined the man was intoxicated. He was also had a firearm. Deputies took him into custody and booked him into the Summit County Jail.
A Summit Park resident called the Sheriff’s Office to report an unknown person who had used a balcony door to enter their house while the resident wasn’t home. The individual reportedly took a purse and some jewelry sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Thursday, April 30
A homebuilder reported someone had sneaked into a home that was under construction and damaged the countertops. Deputies searched the area, but there are currently no suspects. The case has been forwarded to investigators.
Wednesday, April 29
Deputies responded to a gas station in Coalville after they received reports of a truck and trailer blocking the road. They contacted the truck’s driver and observed signs of impairment, as well as multiple open containers in the vehicle. Deputies placed the individual under arrest for public intoxication and violating open container laws. The vehicle was towed, and other occupants inside the car were released on the scene.
