The Park City Police Department recently encountered a series of issues involving rideshare drivers or people driving, causing traffic backups in the Main Street core.
The cases were logged as some of the largest crowds of the summer arrived in the period after Independence Day. Main Street frequently experiences backups, and drivers picking people up or dropping them off can worsen the issue.
The issue was especially problematic on a recent Saturday, when cases were reported in the evening and nighttime hours. The cases included:
- On Saturday, July 11, at 11:33 p.m., a police officer stopped a driver on Main Street, indicating the vehicle was impeding traffic “to pick up ride share customers.”
- On July 11 at 10:19 p.m., an officer stopped a driver on Main Street after observing the vehicle impeding traffic while picking up rideshare customers.
- On July 11 at 9:41 p.m., an officer pulled over a Main Street driver, describing the vehicle as impeding traffic while dropping off rideshare customers.
- On July 11 at 7:31 p.m., an officer stopped a driver on Main Street, saying the vehicle was impeding traffic as the person was dropping off passengers.
Public police logs did not provide details about whether the drivers received tickets or warnings.
The Police Department, meanwhile, logged other traffic-related encounters in the area of Main Street. The logs did not list whether tickets or warnings were issued. The cases included:
- On July 11 at 11:17 p.m., an officer pulled over a driver in the area of the intersection of Park Avenue and Heber Avenue after, the police said, the vehicle did not stop at a stop sign at the Main Street-Heber Avenue intersection.
- On July 11 at 6:29 p.m., an officer pulled over a driver in the area of Main Street and 4th Street, describing that the driver failed to yield while making a left turn onto southbound Main Street.
- On July 11 at 6:21 p.m., an officer came across an issue outside a Main Street restaurant-nightclub. Public police logs indicated a parked vehicle impeded traffic on Main Street while equipment was unloaded.
- On July 10 at 1:48 p.m., an officer stopped a driver after the person made a turn in the wrong direction onto one-way 5th Street at the Main Street intersection. The driver made the turn “directly in front of” the officer’s vehicle, the police said.
