I’ve had the opportunity to know and work alongside Malena Stevens for many years, dating back to our time as young employees at Park City Municipal.
Early in our careers, we found ourselves working in different departments but often intersecting on projects, committees and internal initiatives that supported both staff and the broader community. Those experiences gave me a front-row seat to how Malena approaches her work and how seriously she takes the responsibility of public service.
Even then, Malena had a unique combination of curiosity, discipline and follow-through. She didn’t just complete tasks, she sought to understand how systems worked and how they could be improved. Whether it was helping organize internal programs like Women in Leadership or supporting community-facing efforts like the Utah History Lecture Series, Malena consistently stepped forward to contribute in meaningful ways.
Our time working together gave Malena exposure to a wide range of issues — operational, financial, and community-focused — and helped build a breadth of experience that ultimately led her to serve on the Summit County Council. Watching that progression felt natural because it was rooted in years of showing up, doing the work, and building a strong understanding of how public institutions operate.
The Clerk’s Office is not about headlines or visibility. It is about ensuring that processes are carried out correctly, that records are maintained accurately, and that elections are administered with care and integrity. It requires someone who understands both the details and the bigger picture — how day-to-day operations connect to public trust.
Malena has spent her career building that understanding.
Summit County will be well served by her leadership as county clerk.
