The entire area called Bonanza Park is a generational opportunity to support the community necessary to sustain Park City.
Park City is rapidly becoming a hollow retirement community lacking sufficient full-time working population to sustain and energize our community. It’s this population that helps fill our schools, do the work, and support a diversity of activity and commerce.
Over 87% of our daily workforce commutes from out of town, denying them the opportunity to be active community members and creating many of the daily traffic issues plaguing Park City. We need local housing to support this essential population.
The Bonanza Park 5-acre parcel stands to be the anchor of a desperately needed, locally focused, vibrant neighborhood that could accommodate and attract the full-time population we need to sustain the very soul of Park City.
This central, commercially zoned site, walking distance to jobs, schools, services and recreation with fast, free and frequent transit is an ideal workforce neighborhood location.
Park City was blessed with earlier leaders who secured and preserved meaningful open space throughout our town. From the McPolin Barn property to Bonanza Flats, Treasure Hill and Round Valley, we are fortunate to have high-value preserved land that supports our natural environment and prevents sprawl from bleeding into Park City.
I encourage the Planning Commission to find a path to enable essential development on the 5-acre parcel before it’s too late.
