Park City High School was under a brief lockdown at 11:42 a.m. on Thursday after the alert was “initiated by accident,” according to district officials.
The incident was resolved by 11:44 a.m., and there was no threat to student or staff safety.
“Although this was a false alarm, we are thankful for the quick response of our school community and deeply grateful to law enforcement for their swift, dedicated support,” the district said in a prepared statement. “Our teachers and staff executed protocols seamlessly, students stayed calm and officers arrived on site within 90 seconds.”
A lockdown is a standard safety protocol called when there is an active threat or hazard inside or in the immediate vicinity of a school building. According to the Standard Response Protocol, the directive for a lockdown is “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight.”
During a lockdown:
- Students and staff: Move out of sight away from windows and doors, lock interior doors, turn off lights and remain completely silent.
- Classroom doors: Remain locked, and occupants do not open the door for anyone until cleared by law enforcement or school administration.
- Self-evacuation: If it’s unsafe for occupants to stay in a room, they may self-evacuate away from the threat if safe to do so.
